Rupert Before Rescue

What a difference a day makes! Rupert now looks nothing like he did when I got him from the local kill shelter. He was heartworm positive, so definitely scheduled for euthanasia at the ripe old age of two years. He now is a very happy boy....see his…

Profile Information

What are your dog(s) names and ages:
Rudy Rotten, 14 yrs
What is your dog's breed? (If you have more than one dog, please list a name followed by breed.)
Maltese
About Me:
I live in Miami. Rudy, my daughter Joni, and I are condo dwellers. I also love genealogy, writing, art, reading and just hanging out with Rudy.
What is one thing your dog does that reminds you to open your heart and love more deeply?
Rudy never expects me to be anyone else but who I am. He is always happy to see me and always wants to be right by my side. I guess I would have to say the one thing he does above all others is that he loves me as much as I love him.
Do you have a website or personal page (such as on Facebook or MySpace) that you'd like to share with other members of our community?

I have always loved music. I started collecting records back when there were 45 r.p.m. discs with the big hole in the middle. Still owning a rather good sized collection of these ditties of the 1950s through the 1960s, I also have a turntable on which to play them.

Rudy would see me slow-dancing to some of these old "Doo-Whop" songs and come begging for me to pick him up. So, I started slow dancing with him. Of course, he weighing only 10 pounds, his feet never have to touch the floor. He grew to love it so much that everytime I would stop to change the record and put him down, when he would hear the music start again, he would come rushing back......standing on his hind legs and begging to be picked up so he could dance with me again.

New Medicine for Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs

I want to tell everyone about this, just in case there might be someone who doesn't know yet. About a year ago,

a medicine which was already being used for a few years in Eugope, was finally made available in the U.S. It is

called Vetmedin and is for the treatment of Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs. My Rudy has had an enlarged heart

and CHF since he turned 10 years old. Last spring, I found out about this medicine, which makes the heart beat

more efficiently and regularly.… Continue

Hi Dee, Glad to hear from you, I dont know If I told anyone Lucky passed away around Christmas off last year. My health has been very bad and I don't get on my PC that much. I an't afford to get another pet , my wife has been out of work since march, and things look bad around here. Job's are hard to find. But we are making it. I sure do miss Lucky. Thanks for keeping me up do date.

Hi Dee! Yes I agree with you about the covenant God made after the flood. Why did God include the animals on the Ark if he didn't esteem them as being important to mankind. If you look in the book of Genesis, God created animals to be companions to Adam even before he created Eve. I believe God sees animals as very important creatures so I trust we will see our beloved furry friends in Heaven. Hope you're having a GREAT DAY! Take care and enjoy the festivities of Christmas!..Caryn

Dee, I appreciate your gift. You will miss Rudy and I will miss Sam forever. I still look for him and call for him. I hope your memories will be a reminder of how much you were blessed to have had him with you and that he had you to love. Take care and smile at the memories. Dave

Thanks Dee for the gift! Your hang in there girl! I know your sorrow but looking at your photo slideshow I know Rudy had the best mommy! I think us dog and cat lovers are a unique breed ourselves in the fact that we can take a little creature that doesn't even speak our language but yet we can grow to know them and communicate with them so deeply. Just look at all of the wonderful people on this website and we all have that same gift! Just keep sharing your heart and special memories with us all. I tell you it really has helped me to heal from my loss of little Tillie....Blessings! Caryn

I know exactly what you are going thorugh. Its difficult. I didn't think I would get through it. But, I did thanks to Oliver. Our pets are such a special part of our lives that only a pet lover would comprehend. I cried everytime I thought of Rio. My emotions were up and down. I felt it wasn't fair that he was taken from me. However, it also wasn't fair that he continue on with his doggie senility. I think of him now and remember how full of life he was until the end. He wasn't the same Rio. We conquered his heart disease, but I never saw the doggie senility coming. He lasted 6 months after he was diagnosed, but to see Rio go through the physical changes is something I would never want to go through again nor would I want Oliver to go through this either. Have comfort in knowing that you provided Rudy with a wonderful and lovely life. Bless you.

RAINBOW BRIDGE.......

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All of the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we rememver them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behindl.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then, you cross Rainbow Bridge together......

Today, Sunday November 8th, at 4:15 p.m., Rudy passed away. He was the best dog I ever had. What the hell, he was the BEST FRIEND I ever had. He will be sorely missed.
He was well loved. I hope he will be waiting for me on the other side, in Heaven. I know he was good enough to be made an Angel. Now he is young and healthy again. I will not forget him until I see him again. I love you, Rudy!

Dee, I read your comment on the medicine blog. My Callie is a rescue dog and she is a maltese mix. And is she ever like your Rudy. Callie has a liver shunt and feeding her has been near impossible. I have to cook for her and she rarely will eat the same thing after three days. The vet and I tried everything. She won't touch any kind of dog food. I bought it all and donated to shelters after Callie wouldn't touch it. Medicine has been a real problem as well. I have three different pills we've tried to give her but I ALWAYS find it on the floor. She's the sweetest dog I've ever had and her love is endless. I don't know how long I'll have her but she will be happy and spoiled the rest of her life. The only medicine I can get in her is liquid because I can give it from a syringe. Well, just wanted to say hello and thank you for the knowledge that Callie is just being Maltese with her diet!
