Karma =Sick

My dog Karma is my life. She is a 6 pound, Maltese Shitzu mix and she is completely my world. Karma has recently been feeling badly like she doesnt want to eat or play and when we took her to the vet they gave her antibiotic and said she would be fine. While we were there they took blood to test to make sure everything was ok.

The Vet called me today and has informed me that Karma has something called a shunt which means her blood isnt cleaning her liver, which is slowly killing her.… Continue

Welcome to this site. I will pray and have good thoughts about your baby. That is so sad and I hope they have a way to fix this problem.

Hi Michelle, I feel for you. My tiny sick maltese at 6 months remained undiagnosed for quite a few months, they thought she may have a shunt but she didn't. The alternative wasn't any better and I finally lost her at 3 1/2. Broke my heart. I know just how you feel as she was my world too. I learn't alot about shunts though, and I now that some aren't fixable, but some CAN be treated , with diet and medication. I don't know if this is the case in Karma's but worth it to learn all you can aside from what the vet tells you. You can't do any more than that. As I did with my ,little Summer, just take & treasure each day as it comes.

As it turns out, recently I rescued another maltese, again, she has a shunt said the vet, but thankfully, upon further investigation, it was just an ulcer.

Many prayers for Karma. Hang in there.
