Now Rusty is completely certified and passed. He has had four visits and today we noticed that he knows exactly what to do and is much more relaxed than at first. If we spend a bit longer in a room, he just lays down and relaxes for a few minutes. The residents like that as it makes them feel relaxed too. Of course, that is after all kinds of petting and hugging.
Today Rusty visited Trilogy for the first time. He did very well and pushed himself into every possible room. He always marches right up to the patient, wagging his tail and being super friendly. Even the ones who don't care much for dogs seemed to enjoy him. He might be winning them over a bit. I was very happy with his performance on this first time. He did do quite a bit of pulling on me, but that was just to get to the person. I would like to know how to stop him from doing that. We train… Continue
On Monday June 2nd I attended the Trilogy Home without Rusty. This was for the purpose of getting to know all about the home and their routine. I was happy to see many people who have been told about Rusty and are waiting for his first visit.
There are six floors in the home and there is one dog already there but they need another one, or even two. it is difficult to visit everyone and certainly not for any length of time. We will be doing two floors per visit. Since I have been… Continue
We should be hearing soon or any time now. The police clearance takes three months to complete before we actually begin so by June 15th we should be well on our way to a go.
I must say that it has been a game of patience, but it will all be worthwhile in the end. Rusty is really ready now to get busy with his new career and has been practicing being the most loving and patient dog that ever lived.
Today we were excited to receive our posting, at Trilogy Long Term Care on Eglinton Ave. near McCowan. There are six floors with residents and Rusty will be assigned to three floors.
Ok, before all that happens, we are still waiting for the release which takes up to three months. The home will call me to come in to meet and they might request a TB test. All this can be accomplished prior to the release.
There is a uniform which consists of a T-shirt with the TPOC logo that… Continue
Hi Kara: Certainly I will be your friend. I have problems with this forum in finding my way around. Well, problems with forums in general I guess. I tried to answer you, but nothing happened.
I love goldens; they are a lot of fun and extremely gentle.........Linda
Your dog is beautiful. Just like my little golden pup. I do not know much about goldens, can we be friends and you can give me some hints on the breed?
Thank you
Kara
Rio and Oliver visit a retirement home called the Villa Scalabrini in SunValley, Ca. The residents there love the visits and most of all the unconditional love they give. The residents are so very happy when they see them walk into the facility. Its pure joy to see the smiles on all the faces.
Thank you Janet and Joannie: I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much you must miss Tony. I think that Tony would want you to remember him, but move on and be happy. You will meet again. Rusty is very good with seniors. He seems to know that he must be gentle, well, with everyone. WE are waiting for the police check and insurance before we actually begin. It will be a big day when we finally get going.............Linda
AWESOME RUSTY & LINDA!!!
My Duncan is a therapy dog as well. We take both in to the nursing home but Duncan is the registered one. He's like a class clown and he makes the residents laugh. River, on the other hand, is so docile and gentle, the elderly love to cuddle with him. I have one lady that stuffs her pockets with crackers & chicken (from her soup) on the days we come in - LOL
Rusty diod well on his tests - Duncan couldn't pass up a treat on the floor on was easily distracted - but they certified him anyway.
CONGRATS - what you are about to embark on is very fufilling for both you and Rusty!
