Tim, I know too well how it feels to lose a member of the family. I was not upset when I read your email. Your email reminded me of Rio. I had two Maltese until last year. Rio was 12 years old when he passed. Although, Issa Bella’s demise and Rio’s were not the same, the bottom line is that they are gone and our hearts ache.
Rio was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease when he was 9 years old. You can read his story on my profile. I also did a lot of research about Maltese and heart conditions. Normally, it starts with a heart murmur that can go on detected. However, Mitral Valve Disease is a condition a lot of small dogs get as advised by Rio’s cardiologist. I know there is a possibility of something going wrong when the put a dog under for a procedure. Did your vet check for any signs of heart problems?
You and your wife must remember the great 2 years of loyalty and companionship Issa Bella gave. Though it’s difficult to do this during this time. When Rio passed in my arms - I was a total wreck. Even now I get teary eyed thinking of my little guy. Oliver (the Issa Bella look alike) helped me through my grieving. Ollie has been with me for 10 years. He is one spunky maltese.
I am happy that you brought Issa Bella home and created a beautiful final resting place for her. I did the same for Rio.
In time you will heal, but time takes time. My comfort came in knowing that Rio is resting peacefully in a beautiful garden. Again, Oliver and I send our condolences. Keep in touch if you need to write some more.
