Can dogs eat human foods?

Onions, garlic, grapes & chocolate are bad for dogs; especially chocolate which poison becomes in their system. They are not able to absorb it. Beware of chicken bones. Salty, sweet (high in sugar content), or fatty should be avoided as well. Some dogs are allergic to some particular foods. If you see your dog vomiting or having diarrhea chances are that he is either allergic or has a stomach virus. Yes, dogs can catch a flue & pass the stomach flu. Just like humans, they pass worm,…

Dog Bronchitis: Is your doggie coughing?

Dog bronchitis usually affects small to medium-sized breeds that are over one year of age. The causes of dog bronchitis are not always known. However, researchers say that cigarette smoke and urban pollution could be one of the causes that lead to bronchitis. The overpowered immune system of a dog with frequent viral or bacterial infection is most of the time unwilling to protect the dog from such infection. Therefore symptoms such as wheezing, loss of appetite, frequent gagging and…

Your Best Companion

There have been times in my life when my dog has been my friend and only companion. At least, that’s the way I have felt. Even family and friends will never understand you as well as your dog do. I don’t think I can scientifically prove this. All I have is my life’s experiences. However, researchers have found out interesting things about how pets help you have a better quality of life. For example, spending time with your pet…

DOG POEM: TO MY DYING DOG

Vivacious, wild, and entertaining. Annoying barks, paws that touch heaven. A glowing smile that captures life. Swallowing hate, showing kindness. Strangers passing by, scanning them. Trying to communicate an unknown tongue. Only angels understand your stanzas, the messy rhymes hidden in your tongue. Signs of deteriorated health begin to show. Sunny days saying good bye, going to a much brighter light. Your eyes go dim, your voice… Continue

My Ally girls lumps all over her

I groomed my oldest golden Ally who is 11 years old and still looks &  acts like a puppers instead of 11 years old, and as I shaved her coat off since its been so so hot here in California, I felt so many lumps on her back. I touch her all the time but her coat is so thick and she reminds me of a hairy polar bear. So when her coat  was only 1 1/2 thick, well her back felt like a bumpy road. She has one huge lump right dab in the middle of her…

The Surgery's Over

Donovan got a "Brave Patient Award" from the vets at Kensington Vet Hosp.!

The vet who did the surgery told me that he's the best boxer she's ever seen. She also said he did really well in surgery.

Donovan will be eating canned dog food for the next two weeks.  He got the two gingival flaps removed and sixteen teeth so he's got a really raw mouth.  He also has a bottle of pain meds so he's feeling no pain.

He was pretty out of it the night after the surgery and both of…

Ovarian Tumors in Dogs

Most of these tumors are seen in older dogs yet I think it’s very important taking care of your dog when she needs you the most. Some symptoms are loss of appetite, fever, abdominal enlargement, hair loss, and many others. You can feel some ovarian tumors by the simple touch of your hands. However, an abdominal ultrasound might be the best choice if you see the symptoms but can’t feel the tumor. Be supportive of your dog. It’s as… Continue

Donovan's Surgery

The surgery which was scheduled for Tuesday the 9th of August did not happen. Our ride never showed up nor did she call.

I have rescheduled the surgery for Friday the 19th of August.  This time I have rides with two of my friends.  One is dropping us off at the vet's.  The other is picking us up afterwards.

All prayers and positive thoughts appreciated.  If you did so on the 9th, don't worry prayers and positive thoughts don't spoil.

How is your Dog’s Social Life?

The key is to expose your pet to other pets different shapes, sizes, and colors, earlier on his/her puppy years. He will eventually get accustomed to it and chances are when he grows up he won’t be as scared or alarmed when he sees a strange creature in his surroundings. Think about it, if you, out of a sudden, see people walking around your house that don’t quite look as humans but perhaps some type of sick alien. What… Continue

Donovan has Surgery

On Tuesday, August 9th Donovan will have dental surgery. Part of it is my fault for not brushing his teeth regularly. He will have a number of extractions. He also gets two flaps of overgrown gum removed.  Finally the vet will remove a small nodule from his stomach.  It's the nodule that's problematic.  It may be cancerous.  We're hoping not.  All prayers are appreciated.

What if my Dog were Super Dog

Have you ever thought about what would happen if your dog were Super Dog? He would fly in the sky, and rescue victims from Katrinas, Tsunamies, and tornadoes. He would bark at the evil and corrupt. He would grab the airplane flying into the Twin towers with his paws and place it on the ground like a toy. He would pick the noblest mate and make sure he brings her the nicest treats. He would get instant muscles without going to the gym. But what about the fame and the dangers you would face for… Continue

Dog Allergies & Allergies to Dogs

Animals have allergies as well. Every day substances such as pollen, animal dander, mold spores, etc will deprive your dog from a healthy living. The most common signs a dog will show when having an allergic reaction are face rubbing, biting, scratching, and chewing the skin. Most allergies are inherited but they can be prevented by avoiding the causes thereof. A physical examination and taking some lab tests might help.  Dogs can…

Dog Shelters

Food prices are increasing, and our climate is rapidly changing. I’m not a preacher of global warming but I hope we ever change and let compassion warm our hearts. The amount of dogs taken to the shelters each year is increasing by the millions. The excuse is not having plenty of food to feed them or lack of resources... There are very little chances for these dogs to be adopted and euthanasia is applied. Our world is changing. Dog shelters have always been there but now they are increasing.…

A Dog For Jesus

A Dog For Jesus

I wish someone had given Jesus a dog

As loyal and loving as mine

To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes

And adore Him for being divine.

As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog

Would have followed Him all through the…

Rusty continues to do well!

On our last visit with Dr. Macy, all test results were normal with the exception of the same liver enzymes which are still elevated! Dr. Macy does not think that it is necessary to pursue the causes of the elevated liver issues unless something changes. During the period of Rusty's digestive problems, Dr. Macy ran several tests on him including abdominal scans, which were normal. None of the tests identified any causes of his intestinal distress; Dr. Macy thinks that it is probably the result… Continue
