My birthday was last week and I have started my journey for a new puppy in earnest. Molly commissioned a beautiful portrait of Maui which just arrived in the mail yesterday. The artist painted it from several photos that Molly emailed to her. I am blown away by the likeness and am impressed with all the details that Molly asked the artist to include (such as my favorite flower: the bird of paradise and my favorite bird that reminds me of my beloved puppy: an egret). The painting is now hanging in my office and is reflected in the mirror that hangs over my desk so I can see in no matter where I look. She is sort of sitting over my shoulder and so when I look up from my computer, I see her smiling face. I am so thrilled. Thank you to Molly and everyone who has written me to help me these past few months. :) ********UPDATE******** So many people have asked the name of the artist, so here is the info: The artist's name is Angie Ketelhut and her website is If you decide to get a portrait made, let her know I sent you and I think she will give you a little *special* attention. Aloha James

Dear James,
I am so happy for you that you have this everlasting momento of your beloved Maui. I don't believe I've ever seen a commissioned portrait so full of love and committment in the eyes of your Maui, captured on canvas. I know you are very proud of it, and I am super proud of your dear wife for thinking of you this way for your birthday! May you and your family, to include your future puppy, be blessed!!

Made me Cry. How beautiful. I still cry daily over Teddy who crossed in August 2008. I miss him too much. Who and where is the artist of the picture?

Happy Birthday James,Goodluck on your search. In Oct I had to get my 18 yr old cat {Boots} put to sleep.I recieved a card from my vet and in the card was another card, which put my own heart at ease. It is long but it calms. you.
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge
When an animal dies that has been especially close to
someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Ridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play
together. There is plenty of food and water
and sunshine and our friends are warm and
comfortable. All the animals who have been ill
and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and
strong again, just as we remember them in
our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except
for one small thing;they miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the
day comes when one suddenly stops and looks
into the distance. the bright eyes are intent;
the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins
to break away from the group, flying over the
green grass, his legs carrying him faster and
faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you
and your special friend finally meet, you cling
together in joyous reunion, never to be parted
again. The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes
of your pet, so long gone from your life but
never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

James-Happy Birthday! What a great gift. Good luck on the search for a new friend, I lost my Shepherd in July '07
And we decided to get a new puppy soon after that, it was a hard decision but I know that my first friend would have wanted us to be happy again......the tears were so constant. He has brought joy to us and I wish you the best on your search.
Peace Kathye

What a beautiful picture. Molly gave you a remarkable birthday gift. Having to have five poodles and one collie put down for various illnesses, I know the loss that a loving pet leaves when she/he is missing. Each one leaves an indelable loss in one's life. Ever consider to get a shelter animal that needs a home. The next one I get will be from a shelter. There's just too many being euthanized. God bless in your search for a new "companion.

Could you please send me the address where I can send James and Molly the picture of the frame that I have Maui's picture in. I also have a picture of my Lucy and Lucky. I do not know how to ut them on the computer.
Guess when you are my age, you are lucky that you know what little you know. Thanks, Joyce Grimes
