I love the dog park. I wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? I'd love to sing it for you. And the off-leash dog beach. I'm small, yeah, but I like to think I can keep up with the big boys, you know? Unfortunately, this one time the big boys bested me. I got trampled and my face was ground deep into the beach sand. I was a trooper, though. I ain' no punk. My mom flushed my eye and then we both just expected my usual resilience to kick in and do the rest. A month later, my face was all itchy and scratchy all the time. Then it got so I really couldn't open the eye and I was winking and squinting and rubbing and sticky stuff started running out the corner of my eye all the time. I got a corneal ulcer. It's been three weeks now and when the meds and the non-invasive treatments failed, I had to have my third eyelid sutured across the defect in a procedure called tarsorrhapy. I usually look like this:

Today I look like this:

But even with my protective goggles, I'm still a big hit wit da ladies:

I got another two weeks to wear "the cone of shame." In the meantime, my mom is waiting to exhale. Wish me luck, that all of this will work to help my eye to heal so I can be back to my ole' handsome self again. Chloe here (I am the Papillon on the left side of the picture): Oh man I know just how you feel cause I punctured my eye on Dec 1st last year and it took months to heal. But considering the regular vet told my mom he had to remove the eye, I am sure glad she decided to take me to the Vet Eye Specialist. (Talk about expensive too!) My Mom had to put three types of medications in my eye every 1 & 1/2 hours around the clock for two days, then back to the specialist, then three meds every 3 -4 hours around the clock for another week, then back to the specialist, and then three meds every 6 hours for another three weeks. (That cone thing is just awful to have to wear all day and night for months - I call it the cone of pain.) After that we went down to two meds every 6 hours with check ups for two more months but now I am in pretty good shape for a 17 year old. (It was a good thing Mom lost her job the same day that I punctured my eye. She said at least it freed her up to medicate my eye all day and all night. The vet complimented her and said that her following his directions to the letter is what saved my eye.) Now I have a white dot on my eye where the hole use to be. Oh, well at my age I don't see too well anyway. I don't hardly think there are too many things more painful than eye damage. (And I was lucky cause my mom had gotten a bad scratch on her eye some years ago that took all kinds of medical help to heal and so she knew what I was going through!) My mom said to tell you we will send you goodwill energies too. (She said that she asked an energy healer to help me when I was needing healing and I don't think it can hurt to have people sending us energy when we need it.) I sure hope your eye is all better real soon. Blessings to you and yours. Chloe & Bubba & Janet B. (mom)
