Donovan has been gone a little over two months and it still feels like he's right here with me.

Will keep Bandit in my prayers! It would be devastating for you to lose him too. I cannot even imagine losing all your sweeties in the same year. Bandit hang in there buddy!

Hi Jennifer! I am so sorry for your loss of Mitzi! I can totally relate to the devastation you are feeling. I lost my boy Max 23 days again, yes I still count every day that he has been gone right. He was going to be 8 this month.. What a blessing for Mitzi to have passed away peacefully in her sleep. We had our dog cremated too and he is in a beautiful pine box on the fireplace mantle for now. I love your idea of the build a bear. Mitzi had a wonderful life with you, hold on to all the fun memories you shared for the last 15 1/2 years! My prayers go out to you & your family. It does help to have another dog at home, We went out the next day after we put Max to sleep and got a new pitbull pup (7mns old), she has some big shoes to fill but she is doing a great job!

Thank you so much Vicki! I really appreciate your kind words. I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet Sadie!

We have another Shepherd here at home. She's 2 and it seems like she's already stepping up to fill Mitzi's role. I'm so grateful to have her, as I would probably lose my mind not having a dog here in the house!

Jennifer, my heart aches for you. All of us here know how devastating the loss of a beloved pet is. They are so much a part of our lives. I lost my Sadie Aug 5, 2009...almost a full year and I still miss her each day. I think I have finally quit grieving, tho' it doesn't take much to cry. Be so greatful your Mitzi died in her's so much easier than having to have them put to sleep. My Sadie had cancer and my vet came to my home in her end stage.
I think your idea of build a bear is a great one. Just know you are not alone in your grief. When you feel you can, please think about another baby for your babies. Growing up without a dog would be terrible. Kids need dogs...and so do we! Somewhere, there is a sister for Mitzi waiting for love from a family like yours. Take care.

I'm so glad I found this site.

I just lost my beloved German Shepherd, Mitzi, this past Sunday. She was 15.5 and went peacefully in her sleep here at home.

I am so incredibly devastated and grief-stricken and I just can't seem to stop crying. We've had her ever since she was a puppy and she was my first baby before I even had my own babies.

We are having her cremated and then I am taking her ashes to Build-A-Bear where I can have her put into a stuffed animal that I can hug any time I feel the need to remember her.

RIP Mitzi - I love you so very much and miss you terribly.

Thank you Caryn for the kind words! I really appreciate it. I am so sorry about the lost of your girl Tillie! It is nice to find comfort in looking back at pictures and remembering all the fun times and lots of love we shared with our dogs. I know time helps heal too. Thanks for sharing and understanding! It's nice to know that I am not alone feeling the way that I do. Hugs!

so sorry to hear of your loss Kim. How wonderful that Piggy had a loving home for the past eight years of her life. I know the heartache and my condolences go out to you. I comfort myself in the fact that I can't hold my dog in my arms but I can always hold her in my heart and fond memories.
